Tips on tuning Loop
Definition: Background insulin delivery. Akin to slow acting insulin for MDI patients.
Increase if:
Your blood sugar is trending up overnight or during times of fasting
You have positive IOB overnight or during times of fasting
This means the system is providing more insulin than your scheduled basal rate
Decrease if:
Your blood sugars are trending down overnight or during times of fasting
You have negative IOB overnight or during times of fasting
Definition: The number of carbohydrates covered by 1 unit of insulin
Increase (Weaken) if:
You have low blood sugar 3 hours after a meal
Decrease (Strengthen) if:
You have large post meal spikes after meals
Your blood sugar is above target after 3 hours
Definition: How many points will 1 unit of insulin bring your blood sugar down by
Note that this is the most problematic setting for new loopers.
Increase (Weaken) if:
You fluctuate between highs and lows repeatedly (roller coaster pattern)
Decrease (Strengthen) if:
You have extended highs
You have small micro boluses every 5 minutes
